Self-Employed Person Program
The Self-Employed Persons Program offers a direct route to permanent residency in Canada for self-employed professionals in cultural activities or athletics.
To be eligible for this program, you must:
- Have proven experience in cultural activities or athletics, demonstrating your expertise in these fields.
- Be willing and capable of significantly enriching Canada's cultural or sports sectors through continued professional activity.
This program enables artists and athletes to leverage their talents towards contributing to Canada’s vibrant cultural tapestry and dynamic sports community while securing their future in one of the world’s most welcoming countries.

Eligibility Criteria for Self-Employed Person Program

To qualify for the Self-Employed Persons Program, applicants need
- At least two years of relevant experience within the five years prior to their application
- More points are awarded for three to five years of experience.
The experience must also include:
- Cultural Activities:
- Two one-year periods of self-employment, or
- Two one-year periods at a world-class level, or
- A combination of both.
- Athletics:
- Two one-year periods of self-employment, or
- Two one-year periods at a world-class level, or
- A combination of both.
The range of eligible occupations under the Self-Employed Persons Program spans various sectors. According to the Canada National Occupational Classification (NOC), the focus is on professions in the arts, culture, recreation, and sports categories.
You may get a minimum of 35 points after IRCC grade you based on the five selection criteria and point system.

Your maximum possible score is 100. The pass mark is currently 35 points, but it may change.
- Applicant and their family member must undergo medical exam and security clearance.
- Applicant must have enough funds to support yourself and your family in Canada.
